We tell the story of Zug and honor the memory of the many people who came to Zug from Italy starting in the 1950s—carrying with them great hope, but also uncertainty.
Das 1896 erbaute Theilerhaus war Geburtsstätte von Theiler & Co. und später Landis & Gyr, dem global tätigen Unternehmen für Stromzähler und prägenden Zuger Arbeitgeber. 1989 vor dem Abbruch gerettet und 2007 unter Denkmalschutz gestellt, ist das Gebäude Anfang 2026 nach aufwendiger Sanierung wieder eröffnet worden.
Die „Strada della Speranza“ war der Spitzname der Baarerstrasse in Zug, wo viele italienische Arbeiterinnen und Arbeiter von Landis & Gyr im ehemaligen Inducta-Fabrikgebäude (Hausnummer 113) lebten. Hier begann für Tausende, vor allem from Veneto, Friuli, and Lombardy, A new life in Switzerland. A place between care and freedom, control and new beginnings.
La Speranza is made up of this story and these stories La Speranza: not a museum, but a cozy and lively temporary home. And at the same time, a place that represents the cosmopolitan canton of Zug today, home to people from more than 140 nations. All we can say is: Benvenuti a tutti!
